Success Stories - the kind we all love.
Jake
Hey there, Hope you have had a great week. We have been enjoying Jake so much. He has been showing us his personality a little more now. He loves be the center of attention 24/7, too sweet. We have pretty much got a schedule down and he is fully aware of the timing…smart boy! He has been going on two walks with several short walks just to say hi in between each day. On the long walks he has been tugging a little at first on the leash, but usually after a block or two calms down. We get so many comments on ‘what a gorgeous dog’! We totally agree. He is still giving us hugs, each day when we walk in, or open his cage in the morning, love that! We finally heard him bark for the first time, it was the Verizon tech at the door ,and he turned into Mr. Protector. It was so nice to see him protective of us. But he calmed right down and has not barked since! I can’t tell you how nice it is to have him with us, each day he makes us smile at something he does. He is also playing with his toys a little more, tooooo funny he pounces like a big tiger. The only problem we have had with him, was Sunday night, we took him out for a one last pee break, and he caught a scent or something and when we put him in his bed, he cried and whined (he has never done that or since). We were trying not to give in but it was just too pathetic, so he ended up in Austin’s bed with him for the entire night, snug as a HAPPY dog with his ‘boy’. We decided it was time for a new family picture, so we had a friend come over and got a nice pic of us with our baby. We have decided on his new food, it is by Blue Buffalo, he likes it a lot and his coat is soooo soft! Thank you again and we will keep in touch!

Jack
Jack seems to be settling in fine. He has eaten well for being in a new home and he handles the family routine well. He is quite affectionate and well behaved in the house. he has begun to bond with me and now the rest of the family. He comes quickly to me while off leash in the park. Here are a few pictures of Jack and his new sister Annika (all liver female). They get along great. He seems to be a calming influence on her and Jack likes the companionship. She can easily keep up with him in the woods or back yard hunt. She has taught him to hunt lizards and he is now an old pro. My daughters love Jack. They are so happy to have another GSP. This means one for each of their beds and one each at the park. Because Denise is such a good trainer, my 9 year old properly "heeled" Jack around the Park with great pride this Saturday. This has inspired my 11 year old to learn Jack is a gentleman at the park with no signs of aggression or dominance. He loves to run in the woods with Annika. When they get thirsty, we go to the park's lake and he wades up to his chest and then squats to drink. He does not try to take other dogs fetch toys but does like to swim out with them and sort of shadow them.
We are so glad we could add him to our family. Thanks again for your assistance.

Interested in Getting a Rescue GSP?
Rescue is an important tool for our breed. GSPRescue is a network of caring volunteers who have the big hearts and the resources to foster unwanted GSPs until they can be placed in permanent homes. These dogs may come from shelters or from a home which can no longer support them.
GSPRescue is an organizational tool for those who have the capacity to love their breed beyond the regard they hold for their own personal dogs. They have volunteered to assist German Shorthaired Pointers who need homes. These dogs may be in shelters and pounds, from which they must be taken, given health care, reconditioned or trained and placed. The unwanted dog may also come directly from a home where circumstances have changed or the family is breaking up. In these cases, we help the family find an appropriate new home for the dog.
You Can Help!
Rescue is desperate for foster homes and volunteers. We are being inundated by dogs, a lot of them owner turn-ins to shelters. I foresee this getting worse, and we can’t save every dog. We do the best we can, but, burn-out from wanting to do more than any human is capable of is a HUGE problem.
We are currently turning down dogs in shelters because we have no foster space. It is a tough economy, and it’s making rescue more difficult and emotionally draining than usual. We can make this thing work, but remember, we didn’t create the problem, and we can’t solve it alone. We need your help. It is not easy but it is tremendously rewarding to be able to save just one more dog!
You can now make donations to GSP Rescue and purchase GSP Rescue T-Shirts on line. You can either go to the GSPCA Store or GSPRescue.
